This edition of Franz Schubert's "Stabat Mater" D 175 is based on the only surviving source of the piece: the composer's autograph score.

In contrast to its sister work of the same name, D 383, Schubert uses the original poem in Latin. In his setting from April 1815, he concentrates on the first two verses of the text - the maternal suffering of Mary.

The "Stabat Mater" is one of a series of church music works that Schubert composed for his home parish of Lichtental.

This edition is based on the Urtext of the New Schubert Edition. Schubert's original basso continuo figuring of the score has been modernized in the performance material and adapted to the requirements of modern practice.
