Claudio Monteverdis 'Vespro della Beata Vergine' ist sicher eines der populärsten geistlichen Werke des 17. Jahrhunderts. Neben zahlreichen Einspielungen wird es immer wieder ganz oder in Teilen aufgeführt.
Die Urtext-Edition dieses bekannten Werkes geht neue Wege. Sie entstand im Rahmen eines Graduiertenseminars an der Universität North Texas unter der Federführung des Monteverdi-Spezialisten Hendrik Schulze. Das Ergebnis ist eine Edition, die wissenschaftlich-kritische Arbeit mit dem Bestreben nach praktischer Umsetzbarkeit verbindet.
Dies führt etwa zu einer abweichenden, an der Aufführungspraxis orientierten Bewertung des 'Lauda Jerusalem' mit zahlreichen zusätzlichen Akzidenzien und einer neuen Interpretation melodischer Varianten aus den unterschiedlichen Stimmbüchern. Diese neuen musikalischen wie aufführungspraktischen Erkenntnisse ermöglichen eine moderne Interpretation des 400 Jahre alten Werkes.
