Description:
The cantata for the 20th Sunday after Trinity Ach, ich sehe, itzt, da ich zur Hochzeit gehe BWV 162 was first performed on October 25, 1716 in Weimar's Schlosskirche. Bach performed the cantata again on October 10, 1723, his first year in office in Leipzig in the Thomaskantorat. For this Leipzig version, he added a corno da tirarsi as an additional obbligato part in the opening movement and in the final chorale colla parte with the soprano. However, we do not know what this mysterious instrument looked like. In today's practice, a trumpet or slide trumpet is recommended. The cantata does not begin with an opening chorus, but with a sonorous aria for bass with string accompaniment and obbligato trumpet. The following movements 2-5 are also performed by soloists. The four-part choir is only used in the final chorale in movement 6. The 3rd movement, a soprano aria, has a special feature: the obbligato wind part has not survived in the original. Our edition offers a reconstruction for flute by the famous performer and Bach expert Masaaki Suzuki.
