Description:
The impressive collection Selva morale et spirituale, first published in 1641, is a milestone in Monteverdi's oeuvre and reflects his almost 30 years of activity as a church musician in Venice. As in the other Beatus settings (SV 269, SV 195), Monteverdi uses the opening words of the "blessed, God-fearing man" as a kind of ritornello in this composition: an extremely effective composition that also incorporates influences from the madrigal art of his time.
