Description:
Bach was unable to use the Weimar Advent cantata "Ärgre dich, o Seele, nicht" BWV 186a in Leipzig, as church music was silent there between 1 Advent and Christmas. Bach expanded and revised the cantata in his first year in Leipzig and performed it in its new form for the first time on the 7th Sunday after Trinity in 1723. Only a text print of the original Weimar form has survived. Based on the Weimar text print and Bach's Leipzig score, Diethard Hellmann has succeeded in reconstructing this only known cantata by Bach for the 3rd Advent. The Leipzig version of the cantata (BWV 186), reworked for the 7th Sunday after Trinity, is published under the number Carus 31.186/50.
