Description:
The cantata "Ich habe meine Zuversicht" BWV 188 belongs to the so-called "Picander year" and was intended for the 21st Sunday after Trinity in 1728 or 1729. The cantata has a particular problem with its transmission. The original set of parts has been lost and only fragments of the score have survived. The score was probably cut up into numerous individual parts in the 18th century in order to achieve a higher profit or to be able to pass on as many "Bach relics" as possible to posterity. The first movement, an instrumental sinfonia, has been lost apart from the final bars. All that is known about this sinfonia is that it is based on the 3rd movement of the harpsichord concerto BWV 1052 in D minor and that an obbligato organ is provided instead of the harpsichord. Thanks to the successful reconstruction by baroque specialist and organist Pieter Dirksen, it is now once again possible to perform the cantata in its entirety with the introductory sinfonia.
