Description:
The two Magnificat compositions (C major, ZWV 107; D major, ZWV 108) are part of Zelenka's collection of well over 30 psalm and Magnificat settings for the Dresden Vespers services. In contrast to the work in C major, in which a soprano solo dominates for long stretches, the choir is more involved in this Magnificat in D major. Zelenka also enhances the festive character here with a subsequently composed trumpet choir (2 trumpets and timpani). Authentic performances of the work are therefore possible with and without trumpets.
