Description:
The cantata "Mein liebster Jesus ist verloren" BWV 154 was performed for the first time on January 9, 1724, the 1st Sunday after Epiphany. The structure and length of the work are unusual: it comprises eight movements instead of the usual six. However, with a performance time of around a quarter of an hour, the time frame is tight. Furthermore, the cantata does not begin with the expected opening chorus, but with an aria. A chorale is heard both at the end and in the third movement. Due to its brevity and simple arias, the cantata can be integrated into any church service and can also be performed by non-professional ensembles.
