Description:
The text of the cantata "Nun danket alle Gott" BWV 192 is based solely on the well-known hymn. It is therefore one of the few choral cantatas that do not contain any other free poetic texts. Accordingly, there are also no recitatives. It has only recently been assumed that the work, which is only in three movements, was not intended for Leipzig, but for Bach's prestigious post as Kapellmeister of Saxony-Weißenfels in 1730. The court of Duke Christian liked to go to the newly renovated palace of the secondary residence in Sangerhausen and celebrated the church consecration festival on Trinity Day in the court church with festive music, which Bach apparently contributed on occasion.

The work has not survived in its entirety. As early as the 18th century, there was apparently no longer a score, only a set of parts, although the tenor part is completely missing. For the new edition, the missing part was reconstructed by Detlev Schulten (Leipzig).
