Description:
Gott ist unsre Zuversicht BWV 197 was probably composed in the second half of the 1730s for an unknown wedding ceremony and features an impressive orchestra, especially in the opening chorus. The text of the cantata has a major theme: trust in God! In a magnificent lullaby (movement 3), all worries are sung "into slumber". The other arias make the cantata a very special work, albeit one for a specific occasion. Some movements of the Wedding Cantata BWV 197 are based on older material. Two of the movements are parodies of arias from the only incompletely surviving Christmas cantata "Glory to God in the highest" BWV 197a (Carus 31.402/00). These include the lullaby "O du angenehmes Paar", of which only the last quarter from the Christmas cantata - there "O du angenehmer Schatz" - has survived (a reconstruction of the individual aria is available under Carus 31.197/00).
