Description:
In 1878, Dvorák was so impressed by a performance of Mozart's "Serenade in B flat major for winds" K. 361 in Vienna that he composed his own wind serenade within two weeks of his return. Following Mozart's example, he added a bass part played by cello and double bass to the wind instrumentation.
Shortly after its premiere, the "Serenade op. 44", which also inspired Johannes Brahms, was published in print by Dvorák's publisher Simrock.
The new Urtext edition refers to the first edition, but corrects some errors and above all inconsistencies in the articulation according to the autograph.
> First Urtext edition of Dvorák's popular Serenade for wind instruments
> Detailed foreword (English/German/German) by Dvorák expert David R. Beveridge
> Critical report (English) by Robin Tait
