Experienced organists in particular will enjoy this Bach cantata: A concerto by Bach, which has been lost in its original form and which he arranged for organ, is concealed in the opening movements of both parts of this seven-movement solo cantata. The organ is also treated obbligato and in part virtuosically in all three arias.
The cantata is intended for the 12th Sunday after Trinity, which fell on September 8, 1726 in the year of the first performance. The text comes from the collection Gottgefälliges Kirchen-Opffer by Georg Christian Lehms, who was court poet and court librarian in Darmstadt. Bach has set texts from this collection several times since the Weimar period. Lehms generalizes the Gospel reading for the 12th Sunday after Trinity, which is about the healing of a deaf-mute: May God open the ears and loosen the tongue of the believing soul so that it can praise his miraculous works. Unlike in most other cantatas, Bach - in accordance with the text - dispenses with a chorale movement for choir at the end of the work.
