Description:
The soprano cantata "Falsche Welt, dir trau ich nicht" by Johann Sebastian Bach is intended for the 23rd Sunday after Trinity, which fell on November 24, 1726 in the year of its first performance. It only became known a few years ago that the text of the cantata can be found in the Gott-geheiligte Sabbaths-Zehnden printed in Nuremberg in 1728 by the Leipzig theology student and Bach pupil Christoph Birkmann, who is therefore probably also the author of the text. As in other cantatas of the so-called 3rd year, Bach chose an instrumental movement as the opening movement, in this case the first movement of the 1st Brandenburg Concerto. The soprano soloist is given two recitatives and two arias in which the falsehood of the world is contrasted with trust in God. The cantata text is rounded off by the first verse of the chorale "In dich hab ich gehoffet", which - as is usual with Bach - is scored for four-part choir. With 2 horns and 3 oboes joining the string ensemble, the cantata is scored in a colorful and varied manner.
