Description:
The composition of the "Archduke Trio" had already occupied Beethoven for several years when he completed it in 1811. In April 1814, he was finally able to premiere it with Ignaz Schuppanzigh and Joseph Linke - Beethoven's last public appearance as a pianist. He dedicated the work to his friend, pupil and patron, Archduke Rudolph of Austria.
Today, the trio is one of Beethoven's most famous chamber music works, not least because of its remarkable cantabile and extended form, characteristic of Beethoven's works from those years.
Jonathan Del Mar's new critical edition of this trio includes various manuscript sources as well as early prints. A detailed introduction by Misha Donat is devoted to the historical context of the work.
