Description:
The works in which Mozart used string instruments as soloists were mainly composed between 1773 and 1779. However, the years 1773 and 1775 are of particular significance within this period: the five concertos for violin and orchestra as well as several individual movements for the same instrumentation were composed in these two years. The reason for this was, on the one hand, Mozart's prolonged presence in Salzburg, which must have prompted him to react to circumstances and requirements, as he was still in the service of the prince-archbishop as concertmaster; on the other hand, Mozart now had the opportunity to evaluate the compositional experience he had gained during his third trip to Italy and a stay of several months in Vienna (July to September 1773).
