Description:
The previously available performance material for Dvorák's sunny, cheerful Symphony No. 8 is notorious for its errors. The editor Jonathan Del Mar has taken on this comprehensive task of correction. He takes into account the engraver's copy, which was actually discovered in a garbage can at the Novello publishing house in 1964. Dvorák's handwriting on the title page reads: "Copy from my original". This source proves that many of the readings contained in the first edition, which were confidently adopted in all subsequent editions, were simply copyists' scribal errors. The new edition with score and large-format orchestral parts is supplemented by a detailed critical report on sources and readings. This also contains important facsimile pages which clarify problematic readings.
