Description:
The symphony "From the New World", a jewel of symphonic literature, is finally available in a reliable, scholarly-critical edition.
Once again, editor Jonathan Del Mar brings clarity to the complex web of tradition, incorporating sources not previously considered. These include musical examples in Dvorák's manuscript, which the composer can be shown to have used at a lecture at Columbia University in New York City, shortly after the work's premiere by the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Anton Seidl.
In this way, Del Mar sheds light on the frequently discussed rhythm of the horn part in the first movement, bar 4, or on the unclear indications regarding the use of mutes in the second movement.
