Description:
The archives of the Prague Conservatory contain a copy of a sonata by Gottfried Finger for bass instrument and continuo. Frantisek Posta, solo double bass player in the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, rewrote the solo part for his instrument in E major and his orchestra colleague, Professor Miloslav Hejda, in E flat major for alto trombone. Finally, the composer and pianist Jaroslaw Mastalir realized a piano and a string orchestra accompaniment for both versions. This very beautiful baroque sonata in E flat major consists of four movements: the first can be described as a prelude, the second as a minuet without a trio. This is followed by a short Adagio in a parallel minor key, leading to the Allegro comodo, the final movement of this magnificent work.
