Leichte Orgelstücke des 19. Jahrhunderts offers part-time organists a collection of short, non-choral organ pieces for one- and two-manual instruments. Unlike the three previous volumes, Volume IV is not organized by key, but by composer. The three composers represented here are biographically linked.

The "Six Short Pieces" (1898) and - as a first edition - four early organ pieces (1858), which will not appear in the complete edition, were included by Rheinberger, whose organ works represent the most important German contribution between Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Reger. The "Twelve Trios for Organ" op. 39 by Josef Renner (jr.), the contemporary Regensburg cathedral organist and pupil of Rheinberger, and the Passacaglia in B minor (dedicated to Rheinberger's memory) by the Englishman John Ebenezer West, an admirer of Rheinberger's music, were also included.

The editor and concert organist Martin Weyer, known as an expert in 19th century organ music, has created a small but fine compendium of Romantic organ music with Volume IV.
