Girolamo Frescobaldi's music strongly influenced composers such as Froberger, Buxtehude, J. S. Bach and Muffat. Bärenreiter is now adding a new, benchmark Urtext edition in six volumes to the tried and tested Pidoux edition. It offers the interested layman as well as the professional musician and musicologist a unique music text that meets practical requirements and at the same time provides comprehensive information about all currently known sources and their genesis.

The Urtext edition of the organ and keyboard works is edited by the most renowned specialists Christopher Stembridge and Kenneth Gilbert.

Volume I.2 contains the toccatas and score movements of the first edition by Nicolò Borboni published in Rome. All volumes of the new Frescobaldi edition are introduced by a differentiated introduction to the history of composition, source situation, performance practice and editorial technique and concluded by a critical report.
