Description:
Johann Sebastian Bach’s six partitas, BWV 825–830, represent the pinnacle of his piano suites. In its pursuit of the greatest possible variety of stylistic and compositional techniques, the collection reveals the ambition of a musical art book. Accordingly, Bach had these highly representative works printed at his own expense as the "First Part of the Keyboard Exercise." In addition to the revised main section of the "six partitas," this expanded new edition incorporates, for the first time, an analysis of both the printed copies verifiably used by Bach and his inner circle and manuscripts from among his students. These contain notations regarding ornamentation and valuable practical performance advice that are of inestimable value to today’s performers. The editor of this edition—the first to be comprehensive in the light of the surviving sources—is the British musicologist Richard Douglas Jones, who has distinguished himself through numerous discoveries and publications on Bach. Bach’s "Six Partitas" are also published in an edition with fingerings provided by the renowned Bach interpreter Ragna Schirmer.
