Description:
With his "Humoresques" for piano, Antonin Dvorak wanted to build on the earlier "Scottish Dances" op. 41 (B 74) from 1877 in order to create a series of "New Scottish Dances" (the original title of the cycle). Although the "Humoresques" were written within a few vacation days in August 1894, they are the result of a longer period of creative work. The process of gradual refinement of the musical material can also be observed in the genesis of the most popular and most frequently arranged "Humoresque" in G flat major No. 7. In the surviving draft from the American sketchbook, on the basis of which the first version of the 16 bars at the beginning was written, the later musical embellishments and the characteristic suggested rhythm are still completely missing. It therefore made sense to conceive the new edition of the "Humoresque in G flat major" as a source-critical edition. Although the editors use the authorized first edition of the "Humoreske" in G flat major as their main source, the extensive list of variants, in combination with the numerous examples from the facsimile of the autograph, makes it possible to trace the genesis and development of this thematic material in Dvorak's work. - Urtext edition based on the current state of Dvorak research - Preface and critical commentary by the editors ( Czech/German/English) - Taking into account all accessible sources - Includes the facsimile of the autograph
