Description:
Volume III of Schubert's piano sonatas brings together the song-like, dance-like "Fantasy Sonata" in G major D 894 (1827) and the three large sonatas in C minor, A major and B flat major (D 958, 959 and 960) from 1828, which are regarded as his musical legacy in the field of piano sonatas and are not least an homage to Beethoven's three late sonatas.
The critical-practical Urtext edition is based on the standard-setting musical text of the "New Schubert Edition" and presents the works in a reader-friendly new engraving with practical turning points. A knowledgeable preface and detailed notes (German/English) on central questions of performance practice (including pedalization and Schubert's characteristic accent writing) introduce the sonatas. In addition, the Critical Commentary lists interpretationally relevant readings. Schubert's sketches for individual sonata movements are available on the Bärenreiter homepage.
