Description:
Telemann's work in Sorau as music director in the court of Count Erdmann von Promnitz and the trips involved as far as Cracow put him in touch with Polish folk music. One example of his artistic examination of elements of Polish folk music is his work for strings in G major which he named expressly 'Polish concerto'. The concerto begins with a solemn stepping -polonaise in four-four time. Even the quick sec-ond movement, also in four-four time, can be derived from the tradition of the polonaise. It is followed by the third movement, a slow mazurka.
