Description:
Although Beethoven did not live to see the publication of his String Quartets op. 130 and op. 133, he nevertheless accompanied the production process by making corrections and giving the works their final form.
The String Quartet op. 130 is the longest work in Beethoven's extensive chamber music oeuvre. The Grosse Fuge was originally conceived as the last movement of op. 130. The removal of the Grosse Fuge from op. 130, its replacement by a new finale and the assignment of the Grosse Fuge to a new opus number, op. 133, are documented in Beethoven's conversation notebooks.
