The large cello makes a lasting impression on many young children, often leading to a lifelong close bond. The Saßmannshaus for cello was developed so that appropriate progress can also be made musically and in terms of playing technique: Early beginnings on the cello transfers principles and experiences from the violin school and ensures rapid success on this special instrument.

After the introduction with empty strings and the simplest note values, the Rufterz follows as a basic and orientation interval, especially with regard to learning clean intonation. Using children's songs, all of which have lyrics so that the melody lines can always be understood as a whole, the first booklet successively introduces the third, first and fourth fingerings as well as accidentals and note values from whole notes to quavers. From the very beginning, special attention is paid to reading the notation; in addition, simple string transitions and basic stroke types are practiced. The booklet, which is particularly child-friendly with its enlarged sheet music and enchanting color illustrations, comes with a sheet of music cards to cut out, which the little pupils can use to invent numerous laying and guessing games and later also learn scales and note names.

The two booklets published by Egon Saßmannshaus, Spielbuch für Streicher (BA 9698) and Weihnachtsspielbuch (BA 9699), are suitable as a supplement and give even the youngest pupils the opportunity to try their hand at string ensemble playing.

The authors
The school Early Beginnings on the Cello (Das Standardwerk für junge Streicher), published in 1976 by Egon Saßmannshaus, one of the most experienced and renowned violin teachers in Germany, quickly became the most popular and best-selling school for beginners of cello playing in the German-speaking world. His son-in-law Michael Corßen, co-author of the third and fourth booklets, is a baroque cellist and conductor. He runs a music school in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The accumulated knowledge and experience of the Saßmannshaus/Corßen family make the four volumes of this standard work for young string players the most thorough and well thought-out cello school for beginners in the world.
