Otakar Ševcík’s Opus 2 is one of the seminal works in the pedagogical literature for violin. It focuses on the fundamental issues of right-hand technique, which Ševcík trains through 4,000 systematically organized variations of all bow strokes. This famous method for right-hand practice is still used today and is also valued by players of other string instruments. The prominent cellist Tomáš Jamník has taken into account the differences from the violin in his arrangement of the "School of Bowing Technique" for cello. He transcribes individual exercises for the cello without losing Ševcík’s original pedagogical intent. This makes this edition significantly different from the only other known adaptation of this work for cello, by Louis R. Feuillard.
