Description:
The Austrian composer and pianist Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837), famous in his day, studied with Mozart and was a friend of Beethoven.
Among his many compositions is a relatively late sonata for cello and piano, which he wrote in 1824 and published in 1826.
This charming, early Romantic work has three movements with an effective piano part. However, an expressive cello cantilena in the "Romance" can also inspire any cellist.
The editor Mark Kroll presents here the first critical-practical edition of the sonata. It is based on the first edition from 1826 and the autograph used as an engraver's model at the time.
The comparison of these sources brought to light a number of details, particularly with regard to the dynamics, which were not taken into account in the first edition.
