Ludwig van Beethoven repeatedly explored the genre of the cello sonata between 1796 and 1817. From the early works dedicated to King Frederick William II of Prussia to the two late sonatas in C major and D major, he created five works that are now part of the cello repertoire. Jonathan Del Mar, who achieved world fame with his Urtext edition of the nine Beethoven symphonies, now presents his source-critical edition of the five sonatas. Based on all available sources, he has produced a musical text that meets all the requirements of modern editorial practice.
