The second volume, with colorful illustrations and clear fingering patterns, offers well-known children's and folk songs as well as two-part classical pieces that help to improve the students' reading skills. Dotted notes, semiquavers and the first double stops are taught, as well as alternating high and low finger positions. The book is ground-breaking due to the early introduction to playing in position: by combining different fingering blocks as the basic building blocks of any scale technique, major and minor scales can be played in all positions without using empty strings, and often as early as the first year of lessons! On this basis, already familiar and practiced children's songs can also be easily transposed into other keys and higher registers. Together with initial exercises for changing positions, this lays the foundation for an early virtuoso playing technique - a great advantage over many other teaching methods.
Additional material is provided by the two volumes of the "Violin Recital Album" (BA 9668)/(BA 9669) edited by Kurt and Christoph Sassmannshaus and Melissa Lusk, which contain enchanting pieces in the first position with piano accompaniment and an alternative second violin part, with which the young pupils can also present their learning progress in school concerts.
