Description:
Christoph Willibald Gluck's four-act opera about the curse of the Tantalids is based on a tragedy by the classical Greek playwright Euripides. The mythological subject of the siblings Iphigenia and Orest, with its ingredients of hatred, sacrificial death and murder, was particularly popular in the 18th century. The premiere of Gluck's setting in 1779 was an enormous success.
This edition presents the carefully revised and corrected piano reduction, adapted to the current Bärenreiter standards. An informative preface (German/English/French) completes the edition, which contains all the appendices of the underlying score volume of the Gluck Complete Edition.
