Description:
After Johann Adolf Hasse had finished his work for the opera stage and settled in Venice for good, he still wrote some church music. Out of old ties with the Saxon court, in whose service the composer had been for three decades until 1763, these works were intended for use at the Catholic court church in Dresden. The festive-pathetic Missa in g from 1783 with its moving interlude "Ad te levavi" is Hasse's last work ever: the crowning conclusion to an oeuvre whose music-historical significance has only recently been recognized and appropriately appreciated.
