Description:
The edition of the Mass in B minor as part of the New Bach Edition was and is the standard for generations of musicians. The first volume of the revised new edition now presented by Uwe Wolf offers musical practitioners for the first time the extended possibility of a detailed and typographically differentiated insight into the additional information in the Dresden parts of 1733, the interventions by Bach's son Carl Philipp Emanuel and the passages that have always been problematic for any edition due to the poor state of preservation of the sources. This volume will be published in summer 2010 and replaces the edition of the Mass in B minor which was published in 1954 (edited by Friedrich Smend ) as the second volume of the NBA. The edition, revised by Uwe Wolf (Bach Archive Leipzig), takes into account the results of the latest research and examination methods (X-ray fluorescence analysis) on Bach's autograph score. The 'Dresden Parts' Additional information from the 'Dresden Parts' of 1733, largely written by Bach himself, enriches the readings of the autograph score of the Missa. The different layers of tradition are clearly distinguished by gray engraving. Using scientific methods to search for the original state of the autograph For the first time, the entries by J. S. Bach and C. Ph. Ph . E. Bach could be distinguished by means of ink examination (X-ray fluorescence analysis of more than 500 places). All corrections, additions and changes made by the son as well as doubtful passages (ink erosion) appear in square brackets in the edition. 'After this meticulous analysis, Uwe Wolf's new edition of the Mass in B minor offers numerous revealing insights. A less expensive conducting score, study score, piano reduction and instrumental parts are published at the same time as the score volume in cloth, so that conductors, singers and instrumentalists can rehearse and perform this top work of European music history on a reliable music basis'. (Kirchenmusikalische Mitteilungen Rottenburg December 2010) 'Anyone who wants to study and perform Bach's ' opus summum et ultimum ' from the best edition currently available should reach for this edition.' (KiMu Mitteilungen Heft 64, Nov. 2010) 'Meticulously edited down to the final act, annotated down to the last detail and provided with all relevant readings, the opening volume of the revised New Bach Edition is not only a document of the highest respect for the artwork of the B minor Mass, but in its textual accuracy itself a monument of musicological philology. And that is also a source of pride.' (Musik Kirche 6-2010) 'Fortunate are those who can perform this work and have access to such good quality music. ( KiMu im Bistum Aachen, September 2010) 'Enormously important, this New Bach Edition - Revised Edition of J. S. Bach's Mass in B minor! ... One of J. S. Bach's major works is finally available here in scholarly form, as it should be. Congratulations!' (Ton Koopman ) 'Uwe Wolf has subjected all the materials left behind by J. S. Bach - manuscripts, paper, ink, etc. - to a thorough and careful examination. From this we will be able to gain new certainties for the individual components of our performances.
