Description:
Johann Sebastian Bach's cantata "Der Himmel lacht! Die Erde jubilieret" BWV 31 was composed in Weimar for the Sunday of April 21, 1715. The text by Salomon Franck is closely linked to the Easter Gospel. ln its full-part festive scoring, the cantata depicts the Easter rejoicing over the resurrection of Jesus. The performance material, which is now available here in the Urtext of the New Bach Edition, allows the cantata to be performed both in the larger Weimar version and in the later Leipzig version. ln the oboe parts, alternative oboes d'amore are included in a second staff.
