Description:
Antonio Vivaldi composed a total of almost thirty instrumental works that use the cello as the solo instrument. Vivaldi knew how to tailor his music to the cello. In doing so, he helped to establish this still young instrument in the music of his time. The Concerto in g RV 531 is the only double concerto with two solo violoncellos in Vivaldi's oeuvre. The two solos are in the foreground throughout with virtuoso passages which, however, are placed on the instrument in such a way that the parts can be easily mastered.
This edition is based on the careful evaluation of Vivaldi's autograph score as the main source, and it corrects some inconsistencies in earlier editions.
At the same time, it allows a flexible realization of this concerto: it can be played with a full tutti orchestra or with solo parts, and the part of the cello in the basso continuo group can also be played separately or by the soloists.
