Description:
This violin concerto in G minor has not survived in the present version. It is a reconstruction of a lost violin concerto which only survives in Bach's arrangement for harpsichord, namely as the Harpsichord Concerto in F minor BWV 1056. The reconstruction is based on a precise evaluation of those autograph harpsichord concertos of which an original version for violin has survived. The autograph harpsichord parts in particular contain corrections which Bach made in the course of editing and which show how Bach transcribed solo works for harpsichord. This piano reduction supplements the orchestral material. The piano part has been made as pianistic and transparent as possible so that the player can ornament and harmonize as he wishes.
