Description:
The musicologist Malcolm Bruno created a new reconstruction of the work on the basis of the funeral ode BWV 198, which has since been established as a parody model.
Welcome Comeback Bach's St. John and St. Matthew Passions are popular and well established in concert life. Of a third, the St. Mark Passion , only Picander's original textbook survives. Parallel arias from various cantatas replace missing aria music, and the lost recitatives and turba choruses are replaced by the spoken Gospel text, which is printed bilingually (German/English) in this edition. The freshly prepared performance material, including a detailed commentary, is supplemented by a newly arranged piano reduction.
