Description:
The Serenata in tre parti Parnasso in festa was first performed on the occasion of the wedding between Princess Anne and Prince William IV of Orange in March 1734. The music is largely based on the English-language oratorio Athalia. The Italian text by Giacomo Rossi deals with the Greek myth of the marriage of Thetis and Peleus. As was quite common for Handel, the work underwent three major revisions up to 1741.
This piano reduction is based on the Urtext of the Hallische Händel-Ausgabe (BA 10718), which offers the complete critical musical text of the Serenata for the first time. The most important changes from the later versions are reproduced in an appendix.
