Description:
With timpani and trumpets à la Marseillaise, a French piece of music conquered the public consciousness again in 1953 ("Eurovision anthem") and a composer was rediscovered: Marc-Antoine Charpentier's Te Deum H 146 appeared on recordings for the first time. The introductory fanfare heralds not only the praise of God, but also that of the Sun King Louis XIV, and it opens one of the great works of French Baroque music. Splendid festivity and fervent supplication, effective choirs, arias and small ensembles as well as instrumental interludes combine to form a harmonious whole that reflects Charpentier's musical and theological interpretation of the Latin hymn of praise on which it is based.
