Description:
There is hardly a piano pupil who would not have played Beethoven's two sonatas op. 49, both of which are described as "Sonate facile", in his early years.
The works are not only technically easy, but also very lyrical and effective, so that the joy of making music is ideally combined here with the conquest of the first playful and artistic classical literature. The two works were composed much earlier than their opus number suggests. Beethoven composed them around 1797/98, at a time when he was also working on one of his most important sonatas, the "Grande Sonate pathétique" op. 13.
The internationally renowned Beethoven specialist Jonathan Del Mar has devoted himself to the edition of the two sonatas with his usual precision and meticulousness. He has evaluated all available sources in order to arrive at a reliable and plausible musical text that comes closest to the composer's intentions. Readings and editorial decisions are documented in the Critical Commentary. An informative introduction to the sonatas is supplemented by valuable notes on questions of historical performance practice. Among other things, they also provide information on the dynamics of the second sonata, which contains virtually no dynamic indications in the sources. The reader-friendly musical notation with practical turnarounds makes it easier for piano students to practise the works.
