Description:

The three popular sonatas op. 10 were composed between the end of 1795 and the beginning of 1798, only a short time after Beethoven's first complete sonata oeuvre op. 2. They were heralded in the press as "3 very beautiful piano sonatas" by the composer, whose name "sufficiently vouches to the public for the quality of his work". The three technically and musically demanding works, among which the 3rd sonata with its highly expressive "Largo e mesto" forms the highlight of the collection, are an elementary component of every advanced piano lesson.

The renowned Beethoven specialist Jonathan Del Mar draws on all known sources for his critical-practical Urtext edition and evaluates various proofs of the prints published during Beethoven's lifetime. The results of this meticulous research are revealed in a meticulously edited musical text based on the latest research and a detailed critical commentary. Elegant musical graphics with new solutions for the legibility of the complex music, taking into account the musical movement and practical turning points, invite you to discover these sonatas through interpretation. The new Bärenreiter edition is rounded off by valuable notes on central practical performance issues of the time.
