Description:
The "Devil's Trill Sonata" is the most famous violin sonata by Giuseppe Tartini (1692-1770). In this new scholarly-critical edition, it holds numerous surprises in store. The inclusion of all available contemporary sources for the first time has made it possible to produce an edition that closely resembles Tartini's lost autograph. In addition to the solo part, which offers several ossia passages and articulation variations, and the score with a very playable continuo realization, which gives room for improvisation, this edition contains a separate violoncello/violon part for the first time. A detailed preface introduces the history of the composition and reception of this sonata. In addition, a revision report provides information on the sources used and their evaluation, as well as explanations of some important passages, such as the famous trill passage.
