Description:
Festive horn sounds open Bach's cantata Darzu ist erscheinen der Sohn Gottes BWV 40, first performed on 26.12.1723. The two inner chorales, which are inserted between the recitative and the corresponding aria, immediately catch the eye as unusual in this cantata. The second aria is characterized by the exquisite scoring with horns and oboes without strings. The accompanying accompagnato "Die Schlange, so im Paradies" ("The snake, so in paradise") lives from the continuous "snake motif" in the strings. A third chorale movement concludes the cantata.
