Théodore Dubois (1837-1924), composer, conductor, organist and teacher, was one of the leading composers in 19th century Paris. His contemporaries often compared him to Delibes , Widor or Lalo. However, he turned less to the musical language of his era; his compositional style shows more influences from Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Weber, Gounod or the dramatic style of Berlioz. This edition presents Dubois' organ works for the first time in a practical Urtext edition.

The first volume contains compositions for one- to two-manual organ with little or no obligato pedal use, written between 1859 and 1877. With a straightforward outward form and reduced technical demands, these pieces reflect the composer's basic attitude of creating works that can be played in both church services and concerts.

In addition to a detailed trilingual critical report (German, English, French), a preface and facsimiles, the edition also includes a list of sources.
