Théodore Dubois (1837-1924) was one of the leading composers in 19th century Paris. He was often compared to Delibes , Widor or Lalo by his contemporaries. However, he was less interested in the musical language of his era; his compositional style is more influenced by Mendelssohn, Weber, Gounod or Berlioz. The second volume of this first Urtext edition of the French composer's organ works contains compositions for three-manual organ from his time as organist at the "Madeleine" in Paris. These works, which were composed between 1877 and 1896, reflect Dubois' desire to create compositions that could be played in both church services and concerts.
