Louis Vierne (1870-1937) was a private pupil of César Franck and was appointed titular organist at Notre-Dame (Paris) in 1900. Numerous concert tours throughout Europe and the USA made him world-famous.

Vierne's organ compositions are masterpieces of organ music and a central component of the demanding organ repertoire. Vierne led the genre of the organ symphony in particular to its stylistic peak and had a significant influence on organ music worldwide.
