The composer Peter Schindler on this single edition from "Perpetuum mobile":

Amor is wild, strong and relentless! In the end, it's better to stay alone and connect with Phoenix. What a dramatic statement from a person who has been let down by love! Who is Phoenix (Phenice)? The Phoenix is a bird, so called because it is purple (colorem phoeniceum habet). It is unique in the whole world and, as the Phoenix from the ashes, is still a powerful symbol today. The bird appears in various medieval literary works, including poems, legends and religious tracts.

The phrase "Amor durus est" on text no. 142 from the Codex Buranus is partially fugal. The main statements of the piece are performed repetitively, chanting in chromatic tone sequences. "Amor durus est" is a demanding piece that ends the third act of "Perpetuum mobile", which is entitled "Flamma amoris" (Inflamed by love), in a sobering and virtuoso manner.
