In the changing seasons, summer follows spring. The fiery god of love approaches inexorably. This is also the case in this song, which describes the sensations and effects of the soothing warmth. The long-awaited summer is now here. "Summertime and the living is easy." Although the line is from a later time, it describes the same attitude to life. The trees are lush green and the earth is resplendent. Birdsong and the balmy breeze, melodiousness and festive song are everywhere and all are blessed who are loved.
This pattern of expression recurs endlessly in the vernacular and Latin poetry of the Middle Ages. The combination of texts no. 74, 152 and 141 from the Codex Buranus thus becomes a summery hymn that flows smoothly in a jazzy flow. Anyone looking for a summer song will find it here.
